Back in November, The Pokémon Company teased that 2021 would be a year of ‘very special’ celebrations around the 25th anniversary of the iconic series. Today, the first of these celebrations was launched.
The trailer above gives fans a nostalgic look back at the history of the franchise, with an admittedly cute set of tracks that follow on a Poké Ball as it goes through years of games, trading cards and the like. In the end, we see that pop superstar Katy Perry will be collaborating with The Pokémon Company as part of the fun, and there’s even a small snippet of a song to be heard.
“This one goes out to everyone who started catching Pokémon … but eventually catches feelings,” says The Pokémon Company.
As for future celebrations? Well, we can expect more of the “biggest names in music” to be involved, and from March the company says it will start revisiting the many regions of the world of Pokémon. There was also a “series of cool-themed collectibles” teased, with products to be announced and launched throughout the year – including a reissue of some iconic Pokémon cards and a very cool skateboard.
We’m sure there will be a lot more Pokémon goodness during the year as well, but what do you hope to see from the series’ 25th anniversary? Let us know below.
