Pokémon sword and shield make some controversial new changes

Nintendo and Game Freak have made some controversial changes to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon shield. The few Nintendo Switch games have not changed much since its release, unless you count the few expansions that have added and enhanced the experience of both. In addition, Nintendo and Game Freak did very little with the few games. Recently, however, the duo announced the Rank Battle Series 9 rulebook, which in turn brought to light a number of changes, some of which appear to be quite controversial.

With season 8, trainers are allowed to use one limited legendary Pokémon. At the time, it was a change from the season 7 rule. That said, for season 9, this change is being withdrawn. In other words, this aspect of the rulebook goes back to season 7. And that, of course, means that the current meta is changing and changing a lot again.

For some players, this is good news. Legendary books are legendary for a reason: they are very powerful and border on OP. This, of course, means that players are exploiting legendary, especially Zacian, which in turn means that those who do not run with Zacian and others in their team feel pressured to change their party to fix it. In other words, it created a bit of a limiting meta, and it’s this meta that a lot of players like to see go.

Others, however, say that Nintendo and Game Freak should stop shaking up the meta constantly. All competitive online games make meta-changes, but usually these changes are gradual. Players against the changes quickly notice that frequent changes can make the game difficult to keep up with and that strategies can develop over time.

Of course, both arguments are merits, but for the time being, Nintendo seems to agree with those in the former camp. That said, for now, it remains to be seen what the meta in season 9 will be, although it will likely be similar to the season 7 meta.
