What worked for this Pokémon GO Event

  • Extra time: The Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto collection challenges trainers to do a lot in one day. Fortunately, many of these could be completed during the Kanto celebration. It was not something we knew about when the tour was initially announced, so this extra shot to complete these challenges was a great bonus on top of a promising opportunity.
  • Wild vs. Incense: We’ve been dealing with an entire generation here, so this was a good step for Pokémon GO to divide the species you may encounter. Some were mostly Incense Paths, while others could be found in the wild. It was the perfect way to allow coaches to choose the direction of their yacht.
  • Mood: This event seemed like an extensive, low-key continuation of the Kanto tour. After such a fun but intense day, it’s exactly the kind of low-key, no pressure trainers need.

What did not work for this Pokémon GO Event

  • Attacks: My only complaint here after the game of the week is that the locals had to originate in raids worldwide. It was a bit of a disappointment to include them during the Kanto tour, but to remove it for the occasion, especially when the rest of the raid outside the Legendaries was so unimportant.

Overall

Niantic seems committed to getting the attention of Pokémon GO players after a relatively arid January that left many people wondering what’s going on with the game. With a series of improved opportunities in their hand, their best remote opportunity ever in Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, and an announcement that includes several Shiny Legendary releases in March, feels like the game is really back on track.
