Sony has ‘retired’ its official Killzone franchise website and anyone who clicks on the site is now being sent to the generic PlayStation website instead.

If someone goes to the Guerrilla Games official Killing zone website, they will only receive a message from Sony and a forwarding to PlayStation.com.

“The official website for the Killzone franchise has been withdrawn,” Guerrilla said in a statement on the newly-vacated site. “We apologize for the inconvenience. […] Many thanks to Killzone.com’s many fans and visitors over the years for their enthusiasm and support. ”

Seven years after the last game in the series hit the shelves, it looks like Sony is tentatively ready to continue from the series.

Developer Guerrilla Games is currently getting its hands full. Between the runaway success of Horizon Zero Dawn and the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, the studio is undoubtedly justified in moving away from the franchise for now.

It is noteworthy that the removal of the site will have some impact on the online elements of the two latest games in the series, but it will not be affected by multiplayer.

“While this change does not affect the online multiplayer modes, player stats, or rankings for Killzone Mercenary and Killzone Shadow Fall, it is no longer possible to create or manage clans in Killzone Shadow Fall,” the message read on the website.

Once Killzone was a flagship brand for PlayStation and he enjoyed releases in PS2, PS3, PS4 and handheld PlayStation consoles.

Sony has not yet made any official statements about the future of the brand, but at the time of writing, no future Killzone projects have been formally announced.
