PlayStation invests in Jade Raymond’s new independent studio Haven

Developer in Montreal is working on an original new IP for PlayStation

Jade Raymond has formed a new independent development team called Haven Entertainment Studios.

The studio and its first game were funded by Sony in Montreal, Canada. The debut title will be an original IP for PlayStation.

Raymond is a veteran in the gaming industry and has held senior roles at Google Stadiums, EA and Ubisoft. She was responsible for the Star Wars console and computer games at EA, and helped create Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs franchises for Ubisoft. She also founded Ubisoft Toronto and led the team through the creation of the first game Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

According to Sony, the new studio is named because it will serve games ‘as a refuge for players’, a concept that extends to the team itself ‘which will promote transparency and mutual respect’.

“I could not be more excited about this opportunity to return to my roots and work with this talented team to create a new IP,” Raymond said. “Setting up an independent studio with the support of Sony Interactive Entertainment gives us full freedom to push boundaries with the support of a publisher who thoroughly understands the creative process of making games and is known for exceptional quality and a player-first approach. “

Hermen Hulst, CEO of PlayStation Studios, adds: “Sony Interactive Entertainment is proud to support and invest in Haven and its future. We understand the challenges and rewards of building creative teams from the start, just like Jade “with her vast experience helping many of the games’ biggest franchises. We are confident and excited about the bright future of Haven Studios and its first project currently under development.”
