Plans unveiled for Grand Mars City

The architectural firm ABIBOO predicts that Martians will become cliff dwellers.

Breaking ground

The architectural firm ABIBOO has just announced plans for its – and perhaps the – first human city on Mars.

According to the ABIBOO press release, Nüwa City will house 250,000 people and be built on the side of a giant cliff, where residents will benefit from sunlight while also being protected from the deadly onslaught of cosmic radiation. And get upset – ABIBOO predicts that construction will begin in 2054, and that by 2100 the city will be ready for the first settlers.

Although most versions of ABIBOO from Nüwa City are dedicated to room interiors that make it look like a luxury hotel, it is still an interesting but extremely challenging idea.

Cliff Dwellers

It’s anyone’s guess whether the 2100 time frame is a reasonable assumption as to when such a city might be possible, or whether it’s vaguely far enough in the future for everyone to forget what a well – polished publicity stunt is. Either way, ABIBOO has thought a bit about how a Mars city can function and thrive.

According to city plans, the side of the cliff will be used for settlers’ homes, while other dedicated areas will be used in direct sunlight for agriculture, livestock and energy production.

The ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining civilization on the surface of Mars that weans off supplies and deliveries from Earth as soon as possible, though details of how this will happen are still scarce.
