Pixel 5 GPU performance ‘doubles’ w / latest update

As we reported yesterday, Google’s April patch for the Pixel 5 includes some minor fixes, as well as a major update for gamers. It has now been confirmed that the patch “essentially doubles” the GPU performance on the Pixel 5.

You may have missed it last year when the phone was launched, but it was reported that the Pixel 5’s GPU performance lagged far behind other phones with the same Snapdragon 765G chipset. It does not make a big difference in the daily tasks, but it was a limitation that those who play even slightly demanding mobile games felt.

AnAndTech reported rather pitiful numbers earlier this year when the Pixel 5 is compared to numerous other Android smartphones, even behind the three-generation-old Galaxy S10 series and, more importantly, behind the LG Velvet, with a few scores that are almost half.

In a Twitter thread, Andrei F from the outlet confirm that the April security level did wonders for the GPU performance of the Pixel 5. He says the performance “essentially doubled” and now matches that of other Snapdragon 765G smartphones. This is good news for Pixel 5 owners, and the same improvement must is also applicable to the Pixel 4a 5G, although it has not been tested yet.
