Unlimited original quality upload to Google Photos was without a doubt one of the best benefits of the earlier Pixel phones. The original Pixel had it, just like the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3. Unfortunately, we knew that fringe benefit was not a always bonus and that it will eventually come to the end of the two phones.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will lose unlimited original quality uploads to Google Photos within two days, after January 16th. to be backed up, you need to hurry up and do it. Once January 17th starts, you will be switched to high quality upload unless you manually select the original quality and do not mind filling your Google One space even faster.
For Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners, you have 1 year more on your unlimited original backup. Google Photos has begun notifying Pixel owners of the upcoming change, which will switch the upload to high quality after January 31, 2022.
As a reminder, although Google recently changed its high-quality Google Photos backup policy to count in your Google storage, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 were released. Once the original quality advantage disappears, Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 owners can still upload high quality for free.
