Pixar’s Soul hits The Office as best streaming movie during Christmas

Pixar’s Soul made Christmas week history when it came in at number one in the Nielsen stream ratings for Christmas week.

The computer-animated film made a history for Pixar and its parent company The Walt Disney Company by becoming, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the first feature film to ever reach the cut-off point.

Behind Soul comes the work comedy The Office, which has been a strong feature film for Netflix for the past few years.

On top: Pixar's Soul was the most streamed movie or show since December 21, 27, with viewers watching 16.5 million minutes of it, according to The Hollywood Reporter; still from Soul

Soul was in first place for the week of December 21-27, and viewers streamed it for about 1.67 billion minutes.

That would be equivalent to watching the movie about 16.5 million times, since the movie is 101 minutes long, although many viewers counted in the stream numbers would have watched only portions of the movie.

Jam stars Jamie Foxx as his main character Joe Gardner, a gifted jazz pianist who struggles to progress as an artist while feeling bound by students who help pay the bill.

After a careless accident, he finds himself in a land outside of life where he has the task of helping a wandering soul (Tina Fey) find her passion so that she can be born into a body.

The film has almost universal praise and currently has an impressive fresh percentage of 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Soul debuts on the Disney + streaming service, but unlike the less well-received live-action Mulan remake, subscribers do not have to pay an additional fee to access it.

The Office was a second place among the streaming ratings, which was a longtime favorite among viewers.

It was streamed for 1.44 billion minutes, while viewers quickly rushed it before leaving Netflix.

The office has been available to Netflix writers for years and was one of the service’s most popular offerings, but it moved to NBC’s new streaming service Peacock at the beginning of the new year.

The streamer has several price levels, and the first two seasons of the program are available for free, but seasons three through nine are only available to paid subscribers.

To attract new viewers, Peacock offers extended versions of some episodes that feature removed scenes.

Peacock is currently not one of the streamers Nielsen has interviewed, but he and HBO Max are expected to be added soon.
