Pig’s blood was smeared on the former home of the violent expert who testified for the defense at Chauvin’s trial, police say

Brodd testified Tuesday that Chauvin, a former officer, was justified in kneeling for more than nine minutes on George Floyd, did not use lethal force and “acted with objective reasonableness.”

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, Santa Rosa police responded to a house that was vandalized. The resident of the house told police they woke up when a group of people threw a pig’s head on their front porch and splashed blood in front of their house, police said in a news release.
Vandals smeared pig blood on this Santa Rosa, California, home and thought it was Barry Brodd's home that testified in favor of Derek Chauvin.

The vandals were dressed in black and ran away when the victim called police, the release said. There was more than $ 400 damage to the home, and police said the incident was considered a criminal vandalism.

Police said the house was Brodd’s previous home, although he “has not lived in the home for a number of years and is no longer a California resident,” the statement said.

Armed defense expert says Derek Chauvin was justified in kneeling on George Floyd

“It appears that the suspects in this vandalism targeted Mr. Brodd for his testimony,” police said in the release. ‘Because Mr. Brodd no longer lives in the city of Santa Rosa, it appears the victim was falsely targeted. ‘

Another act of vandalism took place 45 minutes later in Santa Rosa Plaza Mall, where a large hand statue was also smeared in pig blood. The vandals also left a sign in front of the statue with a photo of a pig with ‘Oink Oink’ on it, the release reads.

Police believe the house and the statue were vandalized by the same people.

Following Brodd’s testimony Tuesday, Santa Rosa Police Chief Rainer Navarro issued a statement saying Brodd’s comments “do not reflect the values and beliefs of his police department.
