PHOTOS: More details on updating the inclusivity of ‘Disney Look’ with examples of cast members

Disney announced earlier today that the “Disney Look” – the guidelines for how Cast members should dress and style while at work – is more inclusive. Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Josh D’Amaro, said: ‘Our new approach offers greater flexibility in terms of personal expression around gender-inclusive hairstyles, jewelry, nail styles and costume choices; and allow appropriate visible tattoos. ”

We now have more specific details about the new guidelines, along with examples. Below is the new information released to Cast members today.

At Disney Parks, we gained notoriety for our friendly cast members who play a key role in creating an unparalleled guest experience. This particular show can best be illustrated when our cast feels safe and proud of who they are, and this is reflected in our appearance standards, or as we call it, the Disney Look.

‘The Disney Look is an inclusive set of guidelines that not only matches our brand, but also enables our cast members to be proud of their authentic selves. It is clean, polished and accessible, and is designed for our costumed and non-costumed members. Our dressed costume members are a critical part of enhancing the experience of our Disney show and our non-costumed cast also plays an important role as representatives of the Disney brand. Regardless of the position you hold with us, when you are proud of your appearance, you become a role model for those around you and carry the attitude of excellence that has become synonymous with the Disney name.

‘Together with our colleagues in operations and local health and government authorities, we are implementing several new and improved safety measures. These include improved preventative measures, including those related to personal protective equipment (PPE) and face masks. Given the ever-changing global health environment, these practices may evolve as we consider the latest guidelines, but we’ll share more information with you as we look to the future. ”

Here are the updated Disney Look guidelines regarding tattoos.

‘Visible tattoos are allowed, with the exception of the placement on the face, head or neck. Tattoos may not be larger than the hand of the cast if it is completely outstretched with the fingers held together.

‘Underwear, which includes matching fabric tattoo sleeves, has been allowed to cover larger tattoos on the arms.

Tattoos that depict nudity, offensive or inappropriate language or images, or violate company policies (including policies that prohibit discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, descent, age, disability or any other protected category) is not allowed. ”
