Phoebe Bridgers was the musical guest Saturday Night Live the weekend. At the end of one of her performances of “I Know The End”, she broke her guitar. And it was beautiful and cathartic.
Bridgers’ salute to ~ rock’n roll ~ immediately became a meme. Firstly because her guitar delivered a good fight not to succeed.
And then, and mostly, people cheered her on. And feel like they had to watch her smash that guitar for their own healing.
The performance did cause online friction after one person openly questioned why Bridgers would break her guitar on stage. “I mean, I did not care much for the song either, but it seemed extra,” the user said BrooklynDad_Defiant! added.
People on Twitter reacted quickly and came to Bridgers’ defense. Many people have pointed out that guitar making has been revered as a rock ‘n roll tradition for decades – when male musicians do it anyway.
One person simply replied, “because this is fuckin !!!!!”
And the verdict is: It’s fucking cool. Thank you, Bridgers, for breaking that guitar.
