‘Philly-delphia’: Trump lawyer’s calls to drop rainfall in hometown laugh

In response to Raskin’s testimony, Van der Veen asked that the trial end without witnesses on Saturday. But if there are to be witnesses, he said he will need ‘more than 100 depositions’, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“None of these depositions should be done by Zoom. We did not do this trial by Zoom. These depositions should be done personally in my office, in Philly-delphie,” Van der Veen said to laugh in the room.

“I do not know why you are laughing,” Van der Veen said.

“It’s a civil process. It’s the way lawyers do it,” Van der Veen said. “We are sending notices of deposit.”

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), The president of the Senate pro tempore presiding over the trial, called for order in the chamber.

“I have not laughed at any of you, and there is nothing laughable here,” Van der Veen said.
