Phillies fans back at Citizens Bank Park? Philadelphia Announces Changes to Coronavirus Restrictions

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health on Friday announced changes to the city’s coronavirus restrictions.

As of March 1, there is a limit of 2,500 people at outdoor sporting events and 500 people at indoor sporting events.

This suggests that a limited number of Phillies fans can return to Citizens Bank Park to see the team in person in the season opener against the Braves on April 1, after a regular season in 2020 without supporters in the stands.

“It’s a step closer to us to be normal again,” said dr. Thomas Farley, health commissioner, said.

Fans are unable to attend Sixers and Flyers matches yet. The Wells Fargo Center said in a statement Friday that supporters will again be allowed to lift city and state restrictions to increase occupancy. The within limit of 500 includes employees and this is not yet achievable.

“The arena already requires hundreds of employees, including team and construction staff, players, coaches, medical support, broadcasters and others, to offer games without supporters,” reads a statement. ‘To welcome fans back to the arena, more than 500 employees will be needed on site.

Wells Fargo Center is optimistic about the fans returning at some point in March.
