Philips Hue launches long-awaited light switch module and more

Signify today launches three new Philips Hue products: a wall-mounted Hue module for existing light switches, a new light beam outside and a refined dimmer.

The Philips Hue Wall Switch Module solves a problem that has long been suffered by Hue smart light owners. Namely, you install a so-called ‘smart’ Hue light bulb in a lamp or ceiling luminaire and then marvel at your ability to control it from your phone until a roommate flips the wall switch and cuts the power to the light bulb, which lasts you make light bulb useless. The new Wall Switch Module, which according to Signify is powered by a battery with a lifespan of at least five years, places the intelligence inside the wall to make the switch smart. Unfortunately, the switch module does not make ordinary lights smart, it only controls Hue smart lights. The Hue Wall Switch Module costs $ 39.95 / € 39.95, or $ 69.95 / € 69.95 for a two-pack when it launches in Europe in March, followed by North America in the summer.

All the details about the wall installation can be found at Hueblog if you are interested in replacing the light switches of your home with Hue.

The Philips Hue Amarant is a $ 169.99 / € 149.99 light bar that can be installed outdoors to bathe the side of a house, fence or fence in multicolored light. Amaranth is 79.5 cm (31 inches) wide and has a maximum of 1,400 lumens. It requires a Hue power supply that can be purchased separately. The Philips Hue Amarant is now available in Europe, but will only be shipped to North America in early March.

Finally, there is an upgrade to the magnetic Philips Hue dimmer switch with a removable wall plate that allows your family and guests to control Hue lighting without an app. Unlike the new wall module, the dimmer is a faux wall switch that sticks to any wall with tape. At least in Europe, the new dimmer reduces the list price according to the Hueblog, with the same functionality in a somewhat refined form. It will be available in Europe from January 26 for € 19.99 before arriving in North America on February 23 for $ 24.99.

The magnetic dimmer can be attached to the wall plate or detached for use as a remote control.
