Philippines restricts arrivals to Manila airports as Covid cases increase

The Philippines will limit foreign arrivals at its main airport in Manila from March 18 to 1,500 passengers a day, the Aviation Council said, as coronavirus infections have risen again.

Philippine Airlines said in a Facebook post that it could potentially cancel international flights. Some passengers will also have to postpone the trip to Manila to comply with immigration regulations, the carrier also said. Most foreigners are still not allowed to enter the country.

The Philippines, which has the second worst outbreak in Southeast Asia, reported cases above 4,000 daily for the fifth day on Tuesday, bringing the total infections to more than 631,000. The daily score has hit the highest days since August in recent days, but it is apparently the upswing limited impact on the economy.
