Phase 1b admission to vaccine has been expanded in several districts in the hometown

(WDBJ) – Both Pittsylvania-Danville and Southside districts are expanding their access to the COVID-19 vaccine for Phase 1b recipients.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, the following groups are now eligible to receive the vaccine, depending on the availability of vaccines and the availability of appointments:

-More frontline workers

– Individuals aged 16-64 with certain medical conditions or disabilities that may increase the risk of COVID-19

Previously, both health districts received less vaccine stock than initially expected, making doses available only to police / firefighters / hazmat, child care / K-12 school staff, at-risk population and adults 65 years and older. A larger offer has been made, which opens up the possibility of extending Phase 1b admission.

“Now that we are able to contact more of our residents on the pre-registration list to schedule appointments, you need to answer your phone and contact your email,” said the director of both health districts, dr. Scott Spillmann, added.

Appointment planning only starts this week.
