Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, Charles Woodson headline Hall of Fame finalists

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced the 15 finalists of the modern era for the 2021 class.

Six of the 15 are finalists for the first time.

Jared Allen, Calvin Johnson, Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson are a vote away from Canton in their first year of election.

In addition, Ronde Barber and Clay Matthews Jr., who had previously been eligible, made the list for the first time. Matthews, who played for the Browns and Falcons from 1994-93 from 1978-93, is in his 20th year of the election. Barber, who played for the Bucs from 1997-2012, is in his fourth season of election.

During the annual meeting, the selection committee will consider the 15 finalists from the modern era who will be elected to the Hall of Fame. The meeting is usually held in person the day before the Super Bowl, but this year selectors will meet virtually on January 19th.

The committee will select a maximum of five players from the modern era, who must get a positive vote of at least 80 percent for the election.

Coach Tom Flores, contributor Bill Nunn and senior candidate Drew Pearson are also eligible for the 2021 class.
