Peugeot’s return to America was nice while it lasted

Remember when Peugeot said it was returning to the US? Let’s just say it may not be a priority anymore.

Carlos Tavares, CEO of Groupe PSA, said in 2018 that the company would comply with its next-generation cars to the US. There was only upside down in the US, Tavares then said, now almost three whole years ago.

Here’s what Peugeot’s CEO is saying now. Of Motor News:

‘We last talked about [Peugeot’s U.S. re-entry] one and a half years ago, for Stellantis, ” [Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato] said. “We can not assume that Peugeot will be part of this new world in the coming days. I imagine that, as a result of the new strategy, we need to adapt and reconsider all elements, including this one. ”

Imparato said it is important that the company does not overlap brands. However, he said that the possible reinstatement of Peugeot in the US is still ‘on the table’ for the future.

These are the kind of vague promises that make you think it can never happen, and you can not really blame it. Peugeot left the US in 1991 and said it’s too expensive to get its cars certified, and you know they did not sell that much to justify the exercise anyway, or 4,292 cars in 1990.

Now the timing, if anything, is much worse. Peugeot is largely a car company, as in real cars, not big trucks and sports utility vehicles. So it would come as no surprise if Peugeot comes here in the current environment and falls flat on its face, as gas is cheap and people still want big trucks and sport utility vehicles.

I would leave such decisions to the people who are paid to take it and instead note that Peugeot would definitely come here interesting, about the only real thing I’m biased against.

The Peugeot Sport Engineered 508 also looks amazing.
