Pete Loeffler, says Chevelle, made no money from the sales, despite selling more than six million albums

PETE LOEFFLER says CHEVELLE did not make money, even though he sold more than six million albums

CHEVELLE singer / guitarist Pete Loeffler revealed it to “The KiddChris Show” on Cincinnati’s WEBN radio station that his band is a free agent after fulfilling his contractual agreement with a long-standing label Epic. “We have just completed our record deal,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “How many bands can it say? We only have our last one for Sony/Epic, and we sit here wondering what’s next. Where are we going now? Are we going back to an indie band? I mean, it’s pretty cool. This sounds exciting. I do not know. I do not know where we are going now. Are we starting a label? Do we do it ourselves? We are not a TikTok band necessarily; we do not have that platform. ‘

He goes on to say, “We try to change, but not change too much to lose your core fan base, and yet you want to grow, and yet you do not want to get stuck in the same archaic music business model.”

Asked if he and his brother, CHEVELLE drummer Sam Loeffler, still do not know if they will sign again Epic, Pete said: “Contracts are a bitch, and we’ve signed some raw contracts. And we need to start making money from our catalog, which is ten albums deep, plus all the accessories. We’ve not made any money yet. off of record sales, album sales. It’s all about the big labels. A lot of people make money from us; we just do not make money the way the transactions are structured. We’m just not excited to come back when we open a new home. Finding a new brand, wherever it is, should be a special deal where you get something for your hard work. ‘

He added: “It would be nice to do something different and actually take a look at an album; it just did not happen to us. We have sold six million albums for Epic Records, and they earned $ 50 million. It’s crooked. And the artist – just like [American stand-up comedian] Dave Chappelle said, he knows he has entered into an agreement for the Chappelle Show [‘Chappelle’s Show’] long ago, and it’s a raw deal. It went to someone else, and they can post it on any platform, whether it is Netflix or HBO or whatever, and he goes to them and says, ‘Look, I know I did, but it’s wrong – it’s still wrong. You must compensate the artist. ‘And that’s where we end up. This is a bad business model for the artist. ‘

Pete said further Epic still retains the rights to CHEVELLEsee full catalog. “The fact is that if you sign a record deal with a major, they own it for about 20 years,” he explained. “We said, ‘We would have signed with you again if you had just sent some of it to us through the pipeline. “All the profits keep everything. ‘And if you just pass on a little bit, maybe we can talk about this, [about] go ahead. ‘I mean, there are good people at Epic. And then we feel burned in many ways. ‘
