SHORT TERM FORECAST

TONIGHT: Cloudy with a few periods of light snow or sleet; porridge freezing drizzle. Layer: 22

FRIDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy with a snowfall or gust, especially in the Poconos. Layer: 22

FORECAST SUMMARY

Our last round of winter weather in the first half of Thursday produced some steady snow and sleet, bringing 2 to 6 inches of snow over much of the area, with amounts ranging from 6 to 9 inches, thanks to heavy snow Thursday morning too many of Chester and Lower Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania and Mercer and Monmouth in Central New Jersey. While the steady snow and sleet has moved away, we will still have to contend with lighter snow and sleet again and again from tonight until Friday morning. Additional accumulations will be a stain cover of up to an inch or two for some, but not all, as temperatures remain below freezing and in the 1920s until early Friday. Also look for a little freezing drizzle that can cause a light ice on any surface. Dryer weather arrives later Friday, with a clear sky by Friday night leading to a partly to mostly sunny weekend. While brighter, it will remain quite cold through the weekend, with only a peak in the low to mid-30s, with a rapid breeze giving an extra cold addition on Saturday. A bit of light rain and snow is possible early next week on Monday, but little accumulation or impact is currently expected.

DETAILED FORECAST

TONIGHT IN FRIDAY MORNING

Expect lots of clouds and some periods of light snow and sleet at night until Friday morning, with temperatures remaining in the mid and upper twenties, and any additional accumulation will be patchy and just around a layer to an inch or two. Given a bit of snow and sleet it is still possible and the temperature will remain below freezing, looking for some continuous slippery spots on some roads through the morning. During the evening and overnight, a little freezing rain is possible, which can add a thin layer of icy sheen to any surface and contribute to slippery conditions.

LATER FRIDAY AND FRIDAY EVENING

Mostly cloudy, but mostly dry weather will prevail and a gust of snow or sleet can still linger, especially in the Poconos, but most of the time it will be dry. Highs will be Friday in the mid-thirties, which will help improve road conditions with a moderate meltdown, although you will have to freeze again on Friday night while lows fall in the low 20s. Clouds may start to break up a bit overnight.

THE WEEKEND

For the first time all month, an entire February weekend looks dry with plenty of sunshine, but also with fairly cold temperatures. Expect partly sunny skies on Saturday with a quick and cold breeze and highs just around freezing, then mostly sunny skies with lighter winds on Sunday but still cold with highs only in the mid 30’s. Lowest overnight will be quite cold and fall until the teens.

EARLY NEXT WEEK

A cold front on Monday will produce some clouds and some light rain and snow, but it is not expected to be much at the moment. Otherwise, expect the highs to climb in the 1940s for the rest of next week, as a less cold and active weather pattern finally arrives just in time to finish the month of February.
