Gwyneth Paltrow’s alternative wellness website Goop promises that the candle “This Smells Like My Vagina” will provide ‘sophisticated warmth’, but one customer got much more than she had planned.

Jody Thompson, a 50-year-old media consultant in London, told The Sun on Monday that the candle was burning in her home after she won the prize as a prize for an online quiz.

“The candle exploded and radiated large flames, with pieces flying everywhere,” she recalls. ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. The whole thing burned and it was too hot to touch. There was an inferno in the room. ‘

Thompson and her partner, David Snow, worked together to deal with the situation and decided to throw the candle outside their home.

“We finally got it under control and threw it out the front door,” she said.

Although Thompson said the candle “could have burned the place down” and “was scary at the time”, she admitted that she found the situation “funny” afterwards.

Thompson did not provide details on how her candle ‘exploded’. However, there is a warning on the Goop website only to ‘burn candle in sight’ and ‘keep away from flaming things’. The statement also advises cutting off the “fuse to 1/8” before each exposure, “placing it on a stable heat-resistant surface” and not “burning” for more than two hours at a time. “

Paltrow’s Goop has been ridiculed in the past for inventing health and beauty tips without providing proper scientific evidence, and some experts have even voiced the company’s recommendations.

After hearing Goop’s critics of Thompson’s $ 75 candle, made with geranium, citrus-like bergamot and cedar, Goop’s critics again took the opportunity to make jokes about Paltrow’s company.

Despite persistent criticism of Paltrow and Goop, the candle “This Smells Like My Vagina” sold out within hours of its release in January 2020. According to the Goop website, the product started as a ‘joke’ between Paltrow and professional perfume. Douglas Little.

“The idea was to do something voluptuous, sensual and also challenging and fun,” he told The Cut, later explaining that it did not actually smell like Paltrow’s vagina.

“This idea that the scent is the scent of Gwyneth’s vagina. That’s not the case. It’s called ‘It smells like Me Vagina ‘means the person holding it. It’s speculative and fun, ‘he said.

Months later, Paltrow raised her next eyebrow product: a ‘This Smells Like My Orgasm’ candle, which according to the Goop website also costs $ 75.
