People die hours after receiving COVID-19 vaccine, Placer County officials say

An investigation is underway into the death of a person who died shortly after receiving a coronavirus vaccine in Placer County last week.

Official health officials and the Sheriff’s Office in Placer County issued a joint statement saying the person died Thursday, hours after being vaccinated.

The vaccine was not administered by Placer County Public Health, officials said without giving details of where the person received the shot.

Officials did note that the individual tested positive for COVID-19 at the end of December.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting vaccinated, even if someone has had COVID-19 because of the serious health risks associated with the virus and because re-infection is possible, although rare. The CDC says COVID-19 patients treated with monoclonal antibodies or restorative plasma should wait 90 days before being vaccinated.

It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.

Officials said local, state and federal agencies are all investigating the matter.
