Pentagon official arrested on murder charge on new charge of assaulting woman

A Pentagon police officer arrested last week on a charge of murder is charged in a separate case on Saturday with assault.

Police officer David Dixon is facing charges of assault on first and second degree and the use of a firearm while committing an offense or violent crime, Takoma Park police said in a statement.

The allegations stem from an incident in an apartment complex in Takoma Park, Maryland, on May 6, 2020, when Dixon allegedly assaulted a woman with a long pistol, the department said.

The department did not identify the woman.

After the incident took place last year, Dixon told police he sprayed the woman with pepper spray after she assaulted him, the department said. Neither Dixon nor the woman mentioned the gun to responding officers, and the department said there was no evidence at the time to indicate he displayed the weapon.

The department has not filed any charges, but investigators found a video Friday in which Dixon allegedly assaulted the woman.

A Pentagon spokesman for the Pentagon, where Dixon has been working since 2019, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It was not clear if Dixon had a lawyer. Court registers do not contain one.

In last week’s case, Dixon is facing charges of second-degree murder after he fatally shot Dominique Williams, 32, and James Johnson, 38, on April 8. Dixon is also accused of attempting murder and other crimes after allegedly shooting Michael in a car. Thomas, 36, during the same incident, authorities said.

Dixon, who was on duty at the time, told police he believed they were breaking into a car, the department said.

Takoma Park police chief Antonio DeVaul told reporters Friday that there was a burglary in the car before the shooting. But he added, “Our investigation has revealed that Mr Dixon’s review of the events was inconsistent with the evidence and facts in the case.”

Prior to serving in the Pentagon, Dixon served as a federal and military police officer and as a combat officer in the U.S. Air Force. A Pentagon police spokesman said earlier that he was aware of the use of force and firearms qualifications.
