Pennsylvania exceeds 11% fully vaccinated for covid

More than 1.4 million Pennsylvania residents have now been fully vaccinated against covid-19, according to the latest data released Monday.

This means that more than 11.2% of each resident – including the 20.6% who are under 18 and not eligible for the vaccine – receive both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single and Johnson-Johnson vaccine. If those who are not eligible for the vaccine are calculated, the share rises to 14.1%.

These numbers include both data from the Department of Health in Pennsylvania and the Department of Health in Philadelphia, which keep separate records regarding vaccinations in the state. As of Monday, the state reports that 1,282,679 people have received both doses, while Philadelphia reports 142,952 more for a total of 1,425,631.

The state has started counting the new J&J shots among those he calls ‘fully vaccinated’.

In Allegheny County, the proportion of all residents who are fully vaccinated is 11.8% (144,144); in Westmoreland County it is 10.4% (37,962). If we count only those who are eligible for the shot, the numbers rise to 14.5% in Allegheny and 12.7% in Westmoreland.

There is 2 970 242 Pennsylvania with at least one dose of vaccine (counting both the numbers in the state and Philadelphia) – meaning 29.5% of those eligible to receive the shots come down.

Pennsylvania

On Monday, the Department of Health reported a total of 3,302 new cases of covid-19, a slight increase compared to the two-day report last week (3,176).

Of the most recent cases, 2,921 cases were confirmed by PCR tests, of which 381 were listed as probable. Health officials define a probable case as a case in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or coviate symptoms with a ‘high risk’ exposure ‘to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.

Philadelphia led the state with the most new cases in the two-day period, with 342. This was followed by Allegheny (275), Montgomery (273), Bucks (220) and Delaware (177).

Other Provinces of Western Pennsylvania reporting: Westmoreland (76), Butler (40), Beaver (28), Fayette (26), Lawrence (22), Washington (19), Armstrong (7), Indiana (7) and Somerset (6).

Hospitalization numbers have risen slightly, while 1450 are currently recorded with covid-19. Of these, 286 are in intensive care units and 167 in ventilators. Despite the increase, the number of hospitals is 15% lower than on 1 March (1 715) and 74% from the first year (5,624).

Officials announced 14 new deaths related to covid, and all occurred in March. According to the state, 24,587 Pennsylvania residents have died from covid since the pandemic began last year.

To date, the state has recorded 967,598 cases of covid-19, with 829 005 confirmed by PCR tests.

Allegheny county

275 new cases of covid-19 have been reported in Allegheny County over the two-day period, bringing the total number of cases to date to more than the 80,000 mark. The new report is a slight decrease compared to last week 278 reported, but 30% less than a month ago (394).

Of the new cases, 228 were confirmed by 1,258 PCR tests, four of which are more than a week old. There are 47 cases listed as likely. The dates of positive tests ranged from February 25 to Sunday. New cases ranged in age from 2 months to 92 years, with a mean age of 36 years.

Allegheny County Department of Health officials reported one new death, a person in their 40s, with a death date of March 12.

Among the new cases – 127 women, 148 men – the age distribution is:

  • Ages 0-4: 11
  • Ages 5-12: 24
  • Ages 13-18: 17
  • Ages 19-24: 26
  • Ages 25-49: 110
  • Ages 50-64: 59
  • Ages 65 and older: 28

There are currently 153 residents of Allegheny County hospitalized with covid-19. Of these, 40 are in intensive care units and 15 in ventilators. This is a decrease of 9.4% since 1 March (169) and a decrease of 78% since 1 January (697).

Since the pandemic began last year, the country has recorded 80,054 cases of covid-19, with 62 335 of these cases were confirmed by PCR tests.

Westmoreland county

For the fourth day in a row, no new covid deaths have been reported in Westmoreland County. This is the longest team of its kind since September 30 – October. 4. It is also the fifth time in the past eight days and the seventh time this month that no new deaths have been reported.

So far, the death toll in Westmoreland County stands at 688.

76 new cases were reported in the two days, with 68 of these cases confirmed by 327 PCR tests. There are eight cases listed as likely.

There are 121 residents of Westmoreland County hospitalized with covid-19. Of these, five are in intensive care units and two in ventilators. The numbers have risen by 9% since March 1 (111), but by 27.5% since January 1 (167).

To date, there have been 27,646 cases of covid in Westmoreland County, with 19,420 cases confirmed by PCR testing.
