Penguins Waive Sceviour, Reduce Angello, Friedman to IR

The Pittsburgh Penguins deep forward Colton Sceviour had a unique day. The Penguins activated Sceviour from the NHL COVID protocol and then waived the forward. According to GM Ron Hextall, the team also transferred Josh Currie, goalkeeper Emil Larmi and defender Josh Maniscalco from the taxi team to the WBS Penguins of the AHL.

And defender Mark Friedman was placed retrospectively on IR on March 4, the date Philadelphia Flyers forward Nolan Patrick was penalized for boarding the Penguins defender shortly after scoring his first NHL goal.

Sportsnet first reported that Sceviour (31) was on remission. The Penguins acquired forward Mike Matheson for Patric Hornqvist in October. Sceviour is in the final year of a three-year contract with a $ 1.2 million cap.

The Penguins capital savings will amount to $ 1,050 million if Sceviour manages it. This season he has only two goals and no goals in 16 games. Sceviour was recently a healthy crab before ending up on the NHL COVID list late last week.

The Penguins currently have 13 forwards with Sceviour. The team also leads seven defenders and two goalkeepers, which means there are now two open lists.

The team rocked taxi players from Wilkes-Barre / Scranton back and forth to maintain form. It is unknown whether the Penguins intend to keep Sceviour on the active roster, have him taken down in the taxi group or cut his tires.

Hextall recently downgraded rookie Drew O’Connor to the WBS Penguins. O’Connor played nine NHL games before losing his place in the series.

Evan Rodrigues returned from the IR on Saturday and played both matches at the weekend. Rodrigues blew the stagnant Pittsburgh Penguins fourth line and was praised by Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.
