The Kings wing, Los Angeles, is on its way to Pittsburgh.
Before the deadline, Penguins general manager Ron Hextall brings in the 36-year-old forward, a player he is known for from his time in Los Angeles, with the two winning a Stanley Cup in 2012.
The Penguins announced the news early this morning in the overnight.
Two conditional attractions go back to Los Angeles, one a third round in 2022 and the other a fourth round in 2024.
According to Pierre Lebrun, the selection from the third round of 2022 could become a second choice if the Penguins reach the Stanley Cup final and if Carter plays in at least 50% of the matches.

In 40 games for the Kings this season, Carter has scored 8 goals and also conceded 11 strokes.
Carter is under contract for next season, with one final year remaining on his 11-year contract, originally signed with the Flyers in 2010 before being traded to Columbus and then Los Angeles.
The contract yielded a $ 5.27 million cut, but under the Penguins trade, the Kings agreed to retain 50% of Carter’s salary.
It is unclear how quickly Carter will join the team and whether he will be in the play when the Penguins kick off with the original team in the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
