Penguins are not shot down during 3-to-0 breakaways, and lose a minute later in overtime

Guess which Caps fans? The capitals are not the only ones who could not succeed in a 3-on-0 breakaway.

The Pittsburgh Penguins scored a goal against the Boston Bruins late in overtime late Tuesday. They paid for it a minute later in a points stand.

After a big hit by Bryan Rust unleashed the Bruins’ shooter, Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins chase into the ice on a 3-on-break. Rust, when he saw two of the best players in franchise history leading the halftime, kicked off for a shift change and left Malkin and defender Kris Letang to pass to a 2-on-0. They did not.

Letang and Malkin surpass and Tuukka Rask hides the puk harmlessly.

The Bruins showed the Pens a minute later how Craig Smith and David Krejci turned off a 2-on-0 rush to win the game with 11 seconds left.

Clearly, the Penguins did not learn from the Caps mistake last Tuesday, when Carl Hagelin, Nic Dowd and Nick Jensen were unable to get past Casey DeSmith in a 3-0 rush early in the second period.

The Penguins and Bruins are currently tied with Philediphia for second place in the Massmutual East Divsion on 9 points. They follow the first place of the capitals with two points.
