The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired Jeff Carter from the Los Angeles Kings, TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports.

Carter has another year left on his current contract, with a $ 5.27 million cap penetrating the 2021-22 season.

Through 40 games, Carter has eight goals and 19 points, and although he was not the world-class player he was, he could provide an additional point for a Penguins team that stays as a candidate.

Carter’s underlying numbers are not good this year, with Corsi For, Fenwick For and less than 50 percent and the expected goals for percentages, while playing 16:27 per game. The 36-year-old is now four years removed from his last 60-point plus season and honestly outweighs his name recognition his true worth. But that does not mean that it is a bad thing in itself for the Penguins, although further analysis depends on the conditions for the choice.

Pittsburgh want to serve Carter as an immediate upgrade at the third-line center over inexperienced Frederick Gaudreau, who has so far posted a goal and four points in 13 games and is likely to be more productive than Teddy Blueger, who has just been taken. after spending almost a month inactive.

Penguins president of hockey, Brian Burke, has a penchant for players by the name and probably wants to remember Carter as the vital member of two Stanley Cup-winning Kings teams, along with his key contributions to Canada’s gold medal win in 2014 at the Sochi Olympics. Carter is simply not that man anymore and if he expects to turn back the clock, he may fail. However, he is an immediate upgrade of the under-six options for the Penguins, and if he adds more veteran experience to a team that boasts two future Hall of Famers, which will once again spur the team to a cup battle, it is a short-term victory, long-term consequences are condemned.
