Penguins activate Sidney Crosby from COVID protocol absence list

The Pittsburgh Penguins activated Sidney Crosby from the COVID protocol-related absence list and recalled Anthony Angello and Josh Currie of the taxi group, it was announced today by Ron Hextall, general manager.

Assistant coach Todd Reirden has passed the COVID protocol and plans to return to his regular duties at PPG Paints Arena tonight.

Crosby (33) is tied with the lead in goals (7), assists (11) and points (19) in 20 games. He enters the game tonight with more points against Philadelphia (107 points in 72 games) than any active player in the NHL.

Angello, 24, has appeared in three games for Pittsburgh this season. In 11 NHL games in his career, he has scored one goal. Angello, a native of Albany, New York, has played two games with Wilkes-Barre / Scranton this season, scoring one goal, one assist and two points. In 117 career games in the AHL, all with WBS, Angello has 56 points (33G-23A).

Currie, 28, made his Penguins debut against Philadelphia on Tuesday and ran 7:24 minutes. He has appeared in 22 NHL games, scoring two goals, three assists for five points and a plus-2.
