The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an “urgent warning” on Saturday, saying people should stop using the Peloton Tread Plus treadmill immediately because of a potentially deadly risk to children and pets. “The Tread Plus poses a serious risk to children due to abrasions, fractures and death,” the agency said.
“In light of multiple reports of children being trapped, pinned and pulled under the back of the product, CPSC is appealing to consumers with children at home to stop the product immediately,” the agency said in a statement. said on its website. The agency noted that pets are also at risk.
The CPSC said it was aware of 39 accidents, including one dead. The platoon confirmed on Saturday that there were ’39 incidents’, with 23 children involved, one with a pet and 15 with unspecified objects. In March, Peloton CEO John Foley sent a note to customers notifying them a child dies in an accident with the Peloton Tread Plus and request them to review and follow safety warnings for the company’s exercise equipment.

“Incidents indicate that children can be seriously injured while using the Tread + by an adult, not just if a child has unattended access to the machine,” the agency warns, saying consumers should also take the following steps :

The agency notes that from August 2018 to September 2020, the Tread Plus was simply called the Tread. It gives the model number as TR-01.
