Paulina Porizkova records her sadness as it subsides and flows, as a ‘useful distraction’ from what is temporary.
The Czech supermodel snapped a photo of her tear-stained face and shared it on Instagram on a recent ‘bad day’, writing: ‘One tries so hard to be grateful and positive and look ahead, but sometimes you just a day like this. “I know, ‘I know I’m still shedding my old skin and it’s still hurting. And amidst this pain, I flash up what I look like when I cry and take a picture! Talk about narcissism!
The 55-year-old concluded: ‘But retiring for a moment from your pain, and even being objective about it, is a useful distraction. I’m going to ride this wave and hope for a smoother sea. ‘
But Porizkova’s self-indulgent “narcissism” seems to be fans. “I look at your posts every day for inspiration with my morning coffee,” someone wrote on her latest post. “So empowered! It’s good to feel down!” someone said, “And sometimes it helps to know that other people can relate to pain that feels endless,” said another. “If that means you have to post a selfie, post the selfie. We got you.”
Porizkova has shared her mental health transformation broadly since the death of her estranged husband, Cars singer Ric Ocasek, 75, in 2019, which excluded her from his $ 5 million estate, a recent act she called “betrayal” . The model considers herself a ‘perfect example of a warning’ and claims that after his death she ‘has nothing to live on’. “I literally spent a year asking my friends to buy groceries for us. It was not a good position to be in,” she said in an interview with UBS Global Wealth Management in February. But her lawsuit to redeem her ‘elective part’ of the late singer’s fortune did not tarnish her love for Ocasek, her ‘son’, as she explained in a 2019 Instagram post.
And some mental health experts supported her confessions about everything from aging and depression. Recently, Porizkova added financial transparency to her stock list, reflecting on her teenage modeling career and her three-decade marriage to Ocasek. “As for money, I not only allowed, but encouraged people to treat me like a big baby,” she wrote on Instagram this week. “I accepted no responsibility in finances, 100 percent responsibility in everything else. And I had no idea that people (biz) would lose respect for me, and think of me as the naughty wife of a rock star.”
All her introspection does not devour the mother of two. Recently, she caught up with friend Elizabeth Hurley, 55, whose topless photos were the target of age-related attacks. Porizkova responds with her predictable humor – posing naked in her bedroom to prove that “sexy has no expiration date.”
“Why is sexiness and nudity applauded in a woman’s youth,” she wrote, “and scolded in her adulthood?”
