Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Chris Webber, Michael Cooper, Lauren Jackson, Ben Wallace and Yolanda Griffith meet among the finalists of the 2021 class of the Salon de Fama del Baloncesto Naismith Memorial, announced on March in The Jump, by ESPN.
Pierce, nominated for the first time, passed 15 of his 19 seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, winning a championship and scoring the Most Valuable of the Finals in 2008. He is 10 All-Star and second maximum player in the Celtics’ career detrás de John Havlicek.
Bosh was nominated for the first time in the 2020 class, but was not named finalist. His career as a player ended unexpectedly in 2016 when 13 times he had a problem with blood clots. Cooper spent 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers as a member of the “Showtime” era, winning five championships. Fue was named Defensive Player of the Year of the NBA in 1987 and was included in the Todo Defensa team five times. After his career as a player, he moved to the Los Angeles Sparks, winning the WNBA Yearbook and Coach in 2000.
Jackson, for his part, is one of the most comfortable female players, winning four times the WNBL’s Most Valuable Player and three times in the WNBA. These are three annotations champions and are all WNBA All-Stars. He won the Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and was named MNP of the WNBA Finals in 2010 when he took the Seattle Storm to a championship.
Wallace, one of the best defenders in NBA history, made four All-Star appearances. Won a championship in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons. With a career-high solo 5.7 points per game, Wallace was named for his All-Defense team and is one of two players (Dikembe Mutombo is the other) to win four defensive player games this year.
Griffith, also a former All-Star of the WNBA, won a WNBA Championship in 2005 and was named MVP of the Finals with the Sacramento Monarchs.
The five-time All-Star Marques Johnson and the five-time All-Star Tim Hardaway are also finalists.
Also named finalist in this year’s class: Coach Rick Adelman, the newest coach with more victories in NBA history; Villanova coach Jay Wright, two former NCAA champions; coach Marianne Stanley, who led Old Dominion to a NCAA title in 1985; Coach Leta Andrews, the second-time second-team coach, will beat him.
NBA legend Bill Russell is also a finalist, but in this case as a coach. Russell, who was admitted as a player in 1975, was the first African-American coach in the NBA and led the Celtics to consecutive championships in 1968 and 1969.
