Patty Jenkins Thor 2 Reasons to Walk Away – / Movie

Wonder Woman 1984 - Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot

This is no secret Patty Jenkins broke up with Marvel Studios after a short but contradictory time Thor 2. Jenkins was originally set to direct Marvel’s sequel before stepping away over creative differences (which, in turn, would earn Marvel the wrath of star Natalie Portman before Taika Waititi won her back). It directs duties to Alan Taylor, which would screen one of the least beloved films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Jenkins said in a recent interview that she sees the writing in the maps for what would become Thor: The Dark World, which led to her leaving the project.

In an interview with Marc Maron on the WTF Podcast (via The Playlist), Jenkins exchanged a few more war stories about her time. Thor 2, and why she finally walked away from the film. She admitted that she was grateful for the opportunity Marvel gave her in 2011, but saw that she would fail:

‘The message came that I wanted to make a superhero movie and Marvel’s honor – on a movie that did not need a wife at all – they hired me. So I was always grateful to them, even though it did not work out.

They wanted to do a story that I thought was not going to succeed, and I knew it could not be me [to fail], ”She explained. “It can not be me. If they hire a man to do it, it will not be a big deal, but I know in my heart that I can not make a good movie out of the story they want to do. ‘

It’s true that Jenkins as a female director had more to lose. The filmmaker won praise for her drama in 2003 Monster, but one critical hit at that point in her career could not balance an instant disappointment, and studies have shown that female directors get fewer second chances in Hollywood than male directors.

Jenkins would walk away from Thor 2, and Alan Taylor would step in to direct Thor: The Dark World, on which he would experience his own bad experiences. But despite that The dark world almost the prospect of a Thor franchise, the character would be saved by Taika Waitit’s Thor: Ragnarok, who cheered up the Norwegian god with one of the most acclaimed Marvel movies, and Thor would push to be one of the most popular Marvel heroes. Jenkins has no hard feelings for the franchise, adding that she loves Waititi’s sequel as much as the rest of the world.

“It was such a great movie,” Jenkins said. ‘Taika is the best for Thor of all time. That’s great. Ragnarok is one of the best Marvel movies of all time. So well and so executed. ”

Meanwhile, Jenkins does not want big blockbuster projects. She’s going to put Disney’s at the helm Rogue Squadrons, and it Wonder Woman 3 en a Cleopatra film at work.
