Patty Jenkins addresses Cheetah’s Fate in Wonder Woman 1984

Warning: Wonder Women 1984 is ahead!

Much can be said about Barbara Minerva / Cheetah’s role in Wonder Woman 1984. Some viewers were pleasantly surprised by Kristen Wiig’s performance as one of Wonder Woman’s biggest villains. Other fans, however, found that her story arc was underdeveloped and riddled with clichés. But this may not be the last we see of Barbara on the big screen. According to Patty Jenkins, she deliberately left Cheetah’s fate open. This leaves room for a possible return in the next film.

Barbara’s desire to become a ‘top predator’ turned her into a feline supervillain. The last time we saw Barbara, however, she returned to her human form after Diana used her Lasso or Truth to convince the world to renounce their desires. In a new interview with Den of Geek, Jenkins hinted that it could create the scene for Barbara’s return.

“I have my reasons for making it ambiguous,” Jenkins said. ‘And I think it’s not clear what her position is [is] about everything that just happened … I like that we summarize Max Lord’s view, and that you see the climax of the storyline, I think it’s so important. But the truth is that there may not be any more to come [for Barbara]. ”

Jenkins said it earlier Wonder Woman 3 will not be another period. Instead, the next sequel will be a ‘contemporary story’, which makes us wonder how the filmmakers will handle Barbara’s appearance when she returns. As Bleeding Cool notes, we know that Barbara has revoked her ‘top predator’ wish. But if she still has Diana’s powers, it would mean she’s not aging normally anymore. Theoretically, it could make a reunion between the two more feasible.
