Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes plays in the AFC Championship against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after clearing the last hurdles of his concussion protocol.
Mahomes was injured in the third quarter of the Chiefs’ victory over the Cleveland Browns in the division round. He was tackled hard on the ground by Browns full-back Mack Wilson and looked like he hit his head on the ground as he went down. He seemed shaky when he was helped up.

On Friday, Mahomes set out the play that put him in a bad place.
“We had an option mentioned that we ran earlier in the game. I ran to the right, apparently hit, tried to get up, my legs felt going out,” Mahomes said.
“I knew it was not a good thing, so I could get caught. I remember before I left the field I told the coaches to let me stay there, so Chad (Henne) ) could warm up because I knew we were about to go down on the fourth and I went to the test and all that. “

Mahomes said he and team officials did not believe the latest injuries had the consequences.
“You want to be there, but you have to go through the protocol, and you have to do it the right way. I mean, you just have to look at it as much as you look at the short term and at all the doctors, and at all. talking to the doctors and going through the testing, we have to believe that there will be no consequences, and I will be able to go there every week and be myself and who I am.
