Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City Chiefs practices fully and stays in a concussion protocol

KANSAS CITY, Ma. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes fully trained on Wednesday and took another step to clear the concussion protocol in time for Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.

“He’s done well so far,” coach Andy Reid said of Mahomes, who remains in the NFL’s concussion record after hitting last week’s division victory over the Cleveland Browns. ‘Today (Mahomes may do) limited work and no contact. That’s kind of what we do on Wednesday, so it fits in well. ‘

Mahomes was listed as a full participant when the Chiefs released their practice report on Wednesday.

Reid did not say in what phase of the five-step process Mahomes is to play.

Mahomes was replaced in the third quarter of Sunday 22-17 over the Browns by veteran Chad Henne, who would start against the Bills if Mahomes could not play.

Pro Bowl Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White said on Wednesday that Buffalo expects to face Mahomes on Sunday.

“This is the AFC Championship, this is the game to go to the Super Bowl; we know all their best players will be there. We are preparing for Mahomes to be there, which we know he will do,” said White. said. .

Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins (calf), running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (hip and ankle) and the start of cornerback Bashaud Breeland (shoulder / concussion) were listed as participants in limited exercises on Wednesday. Watkins and Edwards-Helaire were both inactive for the Chiefs’ division victory over Cleveland. Breeland is, like Mahomes, in a concussion protocol.
