A passenger on a United Airlines flight was caught the moment one of the plane’s engines caught fire, starting to fall apart after it left Denver, Colorado on Saturday.
A pilot on United Flight 328 to Honolulu told the air traffic control that the plane had an ‘engine failure’ after reporting a ‘mayday’, authorities said. Large pieces of scrap metal landed in the neighboring town of Broomfield, Colorado.
Passengers on board the flight, which carried 231 passengers and 10 crew members, set the engine on fire as it sailed through the air. In the video, the frightening face of the plane’s car was chopped off and set on fire.
The crew of the plane managed to land safely back in Denver after the short but disturbing departure.
Authorities have asked residents in the Broomfield area to leave the metal parts that fell from the sky, as National Transportation Council investigators ‘want all rubbish to remain for investigation.’
Broomfield police said on Saturday there were no reports of injuries.
