Parler’s CEO says he hid after receiving death threats.
John Matze Jr. ‘s social media platform was briefly the new home for conservative supporters of Donald Trump who flocked there after Twitter banned the president. But Parler went dark Sunday after Apple Inc. and Google removed it from their application stores and pinned Amazon.com’s web hosting service, citing violent content that, according to the e-commerce giant, played out in the January 6 Capitol riot.
“Many Parler employees suffer from harassment and hostility, fear for their safety and that of their families, and in some cases have fled their homeland to escape prosecution,” Matze’s lawyer said in Parler’s lawsuit. is to force Amazon Web Services to post the platform. online again. Matze had to “hide with his family after receiving death threats and intrusive personal security breaches.”
The CEO did not specify the source of the threats, but his lawyer said in a statement that Matze’s covert action was necessary because he was put in the spotlight “while the CEO of the company AWS is still skimming.”
Matze’s move comes after Amazon said earlier this week that employees are also threatened by Parler users. “Both sides of this dispute have shown that their employees have experienced real harassment and threats, including death threats on both sides, due to the charged nature of this lawsuit,” according to Parler’s documentation, previously reported by Fox News.
