Parler ban pushes the random app ‘Parlor’ to the top of the app store maps

Online spaces in which one can speak freely to overthrow the government in the name of Q and white supremacy are becoming increasingly difficult to get through. One older, random app is now bearing fruit.

Over the last few days, both Google and Apple have been removing the Parler app from their app stores until it instituted some content moderation to prevent people from using it, as you know, as a platform to devise and incite fraud. Amazon Web Services believes the company has even denied access to its servers since Monday night.

The number two most downloaded app in both Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store is an app called Parlor. This is a salon with an ‘o’, not an ‘e’.

Coincidence? We do not think.

Parlor is a “social talk show” in which people can engage and chat with strangers on various topics. According to the app list, it has been around for ten years, and the data from Sensor Tower indicates that it had 40,000 downloads as of December 2020.

There is no reason why this app will get such a big hit in the first week of January 2021 at the moment. But of course we probably confused people who download it because they think it’s Parler with an e. So, uh …. happy Parlor-ing!
