Parler, a platform favored by Trump supporters, Struggles for Survival

Parler was launched in 2018 as a free social media site for users who are fed up with the rules on Facebook and Twitter, and it quickly gained fans of supporters of President Trump. On Monday, it got dark and fell back on the more permissible approach.

Amazon.com Inc. abruptly discontinued web hosting services for the company and effectively ceased operations, prompting Parler to sue Amazon in Seattle federal court. Other technology partners also acted and paralyzed operations.

The ruling was last week’s attack on the US Capitol. On the afternoon of the riot, Amazon warned Parler executives that they had received reports that the social media platform was offering ‘inappropriate’ content, and that Parler had 24 hours to address it.

“We treat this type of content appropriately and have been working with law enforcement for weeks now,” Parler policy chief Amy Peikoff told Amazon a few hours later in an email by The Wall Street Journal has been reviewed.

Amazon wrote back on Thursday: “Consider it resolved.” The email gave Parler executives confidence that their moderation system, no matter how tense, was acceptable to its tech partner.
