The Panthers made no secret of their desire to upgrade in the quarterfinals. It was known that they were trying to swap Matthew Stafford for the Lions full-back. The full terms and conditions have now been announced.
Via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, who Panthers offered the eighth overall pick in the 2021 draft, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and a fifth-round pick.
“Carolina is still watching,” Schefter said at the end of his tweet. Perhaps more accurately, “Carolina hopes now”, someone sees Schefter’s report and calls the Panthers.
So take note, Houston Texans: Watson for Bridgewater plus choices? Or maybe the Las Vegas Raiders. Or maybe Minnesota Vikings.
The Minnesota corner remains incredibly intriguing. If the Panthers wanted Stafford, why would they not want Kirk Cousins? And the Vikings were both able to come from a fine contractual angle with Cousins as they brought home the popular Bridgewater.
Bridgewater will be signed until 2022 with a salary of $ 17 million in 2021. Of that amount, $ 10 million is fully guaranteed.
Even without a quarterback-for-quarterback trade, Bridgewater is clearly available in the trade. If nothing else, it raises an interesting question as to whether the Saints would prefer to bring Bridgewater back as the successor to Drew Brees.
