Packers release former Browns LB Christian Kirksey

Green Bay Packers have released former Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey after just one season.

The Packers severed ties with Kirksey in an attempt to see a paycheck. Green Bay also tackled Rick Wagner to the right, just after a season.

Kirksey was the Browns captain and emotional leader of the team for most of his tenure in Cleveland, which lasted from 2014 to 2019. Injuries plagued ‘Kirko’ in Cleveland and it was unfortunately transferred to Green Bay.

From Packers Wire,

Kirksey, who was signed to provide a veteran lineout for former defense coordinator Mike Pettine, struggled early, missed five games with a chest injury and was eventually replaced as the no. 1-line stand of the team. He intercepted two passes and produced two bags, but during the 2020 season he was classified as one of the NFL’s weakest linebackers at Pro Football Focus.

The Browns do need help from linebacker, but Kirksey’s inability to stay healthy or perform more consistently seems to exclude him from returning to Cleveland.
