The Green Bay Packers may turn their attention to a veteran-wide receiver in free agencies.
According to Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Packers and Miami Dolphins could be ‘playing’ for free agent TY Hilton, who will indicate the expected interest of the two teams when the new league year begins on Wednesday.
He is a four-time Pro Bowler player entering the free agency after scoring 56 passes for 762 yards and five touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020. He has five careers for a 1,000-yard career, though he has been kept under 800 reception yards for the past two years.
The Packers are possibly looking for cheap veteran options in free agencies, including a wide receiver. More than thirty years old and with declining production, Hilton is unlikely to be an expensive player in 2021, which could give the Packers a chance to add an experienced veteran to tackle the offense along with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes can give something new. Hilton, who turns 32 in November, played in 15 games last season after appearing in just 10 in 2019.
Hilton scored 60.2 percent of his targets and averaged 8.2 yards per target for the Colts in 2020. He received five receptions, earning him at least five points in eight of his first nine NFL seasons.
Pro Football Focus named Hilton the 22nd best receiver in the overall rankings in 2020.
The veteran receiver played most of his snaps last season as a perimeter receiver, but he can work from the slot.
Hilton got three passes for 36 yards in the Colts victory over the Green Bay Packers in 2020. In eight games, he received more than 50 yards.
Hilton will be an unlimited free agent. The legal turmoil – when teams and players can agree on the terms of new deals – begins on Monday.
