PA expands COVID vaccinations to eligible 65+ high-risk residents

HARRISBURG, PA – Residents of Pennsylvania who are 65 years or older and those with high-risk conditions can now receive the coronavirus vaccine, state officials announced Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, the state has expanded those eligible for phase 1A vaccination to anyone over the age of 65 and people aged 16 to 64 with serious medical conditions that put them at greater risk for serious illnesses due to COVID-19.

These high-risk conditions include cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, Down syndrome, heart disease, sickle cell disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Those who are immune using, obese or pregnant are now eligible, as well as smokers. You can see the full list here.

If you are able to receive the vaccine, the state has an interactive map to help you find a vaccine provider in your area. You will then schedule an appointment with the provider.

The coronavirus vaccines currently available consist of two doses. Health officials remind all residents to make sure they get the second dose.

The next phase of the state vaccine program will be 1B. This includes people in congregational environments that are not otherwise described as long-term care facilities, first responders, correctional officers, U.S. Postal Service workers, grocery store workers, teachers, and more.
