PA COVID: Last day for vaccination at Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – The city of Philadelphia opened another vaccination clinic nearby at the Edward O’Malley Athletic Association in Queen Village on Monday.

It is the sixth standing mass vaccine clinic as part of the city’s plan to make the COVID-19 vaccine as accessible as possible in traditionally maintained neighborhoods.

The Philadelphia Department of Health has committed to city clinics that can vaccinate up to 500 people a day.

The Athletics Association website only started as an appointment, but officials later said it would be open and available for hikes.

The Pennsylvania Conference Center, run by FEMA, is ending Monday night availability as the site begins its second dose. Officials of the premises are appealing to people to make an appointment until 20:00, restrictions do apply.

After Monday, there will be no appointments, but Farley says depending on the offer, changes could be made.

“In response to the tremendous amount of start-up traffic we had, yesterday we exceeded just over 6,000 (per day) with nearly 1,400 extra doses,” said FEMA spokeswoman Charlie Elison. “In order to mitigate the digital divide, the City has devised a plan to ensure open access and access.”

Many senior citizens with whom Action News spoke on Monday said they were grateful for a local website because it was too difficult for them to get to the conference center.

“It was easy,” said Jacqueline Martin of Pennsport. “Everything was efficient. The city called me and asked if I could come here. They said they could send a bus and pick me up and take me home. ‘

Farley added the importance of the smaller sites.

“In general, these sites represent a fairly small percentage of the vaccinations that have taken place. The largest providers are hospitals and our Center City vaccination center and pharmacies,” Farley said. “However, these neighborhood clinics do reach a population that is important, and that may not be able to get to those sites.”
