The OnePlus 8T launched Android 11 out of the box, and to date it is the only OnePlus phone to be the latest Android version. While its predecessors anxiously await their turn, the 8T continues with a series of incremental updates in its relatively short lifespan. Now the latest OxygenOS version is planned, with a long list of network and system solutions.

For starters, OnePlus has improved full-screen gestures and made the fingerprint reader a little faster to unlock the phone. In addition to the newly added option to adjust the keyboard height, the 8T also gets a small solution for the pre-installed Gallery app and enhances the photography of the night landscape. Engineers also seem to be fixing the problem with taking down Wi-Fi connections, while also improving overall network stability.

In terms of an India-exclusive feature, the OnePlus Store will now act as a one-stop shop for accessing your Red Cable Club membership and purchasing OnePlus products. While this add-on sounds a bit messy (and even reminiscent of Samsung’s ads on the device promoting its own products), OnePlus says you’ll have the option to remove it completely.

As always, OxygenOS 11.0.6.7 will initially only be released to a handful of users, and wider availability may take up to a few days. OnePlus notes that those in Europe will have to wait a little longer, as the rollout only now covers North America and India.

Error update

Shortly after OnePlus released the latest OxygenOS version for the 8T, the original forum post flooded with user reports about broken audio and video game versions. The problems seem to plague the entire device: any media file played or streamed with apps like YouTube or WhatsApp suffers from severe stuttering. Some users have even experienced general inertia and random freezing problems. Fortunately, many people have kept immune to all these problems.

Thanks to a large user community worldwide, several quick fixes have been identified in a jiffy, some of which sound a little strange, but have apparently recovered for many people. The first one involves recording a short video (say about 10 seconds long) from the standard camera program and watching it in Gallery. Even then, a recharge can restore the solution, in which case this second solution can come to your rescue. The expansion of Google Assistant’s voice customization settings has been very successful for many and is not affected by power supplies for devices. Some could even solve the problem by turning on the battery saving mode and / or turning on the phone.

OnePlus is apparently aware of these issues and has reportedly released a hotfix for all the bugs in OxygenOS version 11.0.6.8. However, you do not need to install the update yet as several 8T owners who have had no issue with v11.0.6.7 now have it. If you have not yet installed any of these updates, it may be better to stay away from them completely until OnePlus comes up with a proper solution and an explanation of this whole situation. And those who are already built on the newer one can try the above solutions to make your phone vaguely usable in the meantime.
