OVHcloud: firefighters return to second incident in Strasbourg data center

“Tonight at 18:50 our teams on the premises identified a smoke in a room with unconnected batteries of SBG1,” an announcement from OVHcloud said late Friday night.

“Firefighters were contacted immediately. In light of the situation, the management of OVHcloud decided to apply the precautionary principle: the power supply to SBG1 and SBG4 was cut off immediately,” the statement read. “Operations on the premises were temporarily suspended, all OVHcloud staff and all partner teams were asked to return to their homes, only safety, fire safety and maintenance personnel remained on site.”

The source of the smoke was quickly identified and sorted out. There were no injuries, although two security personnel “disturbed by the fumes” were checked.

The incident occurred just as a video update of OVHcloud founder Octave Klaba was planned, with more details about the original fire.

Klaba tweeted some details and explained that there was no actual fire but smoke: ‘The unused room with the unused batteries was in SBG1 before SBG2. The fire in SBG2 probably damaged the batteries, but the smoke only started ten days later. .

“Tomorrow we will start removing everything that is not needed on the site.”

The OVHcloud statement concluded: “The situation is under control and we are adjusting the planning of the operations for the coming day.”
