Overwatch players call for April Fool’s April Fool’s lover to be permanent

Experimental patch from Overwatch’s April Fool once again captured the hearts of the game’s players, but one newcomer absolutely stole the show: D.Va’s mega Call Mech ult. Fans now want it to stay.

Whether it’s zooming in on her MEKA or walking around out there, it seems like people in general from D.Va. keep. During the April Fool’s experimental patch, Blizzard developers simply added the joy, making it a pleasant experience to go from Baby D.Va (or ‘Zero Suit D.Va’, depending on who you ask) to MEKA form to be.

In the silly new spot, the devs buffs given to every single hero in the game, as well as the now beloved googly eyes. Amidst the chaotic screens, D.Va’s lover really stood out – the ‘Call Mech’ carried from the damage of 50 damage to impact to … 600, enough to take out a full HP Roadhog.

Although many people agree that the buffalo is too powerful, most seem to have fallen in love with it. Following a spate of unpleasant highs, Overwatch fans are hoping the change can become permanent, although it is possible with a damage compromise.

Mecha activated! by Overwatch

In one popular track, you can see ‘uwuokie’ sneaking up behind a few enemies in a stairwell like Baby D.Va, only to call out their mech and kill all three in an instant. This example, while exciting for D.Va fans, also shows why the capability can be implemented in practice.

Baby D.Va is one of the weakest characters in the game at 150 health. Crawling in a closed space on a Moira and a Doomfist is always a very high effort in Pilot mode, if not completely suicidal. But with this new buff, it’s also a high reward.

To achieve the Call Mech death, you must endanger yourself by getting very close to the enemies while having very little health and escape. Like Pharah’s Barrage, the mortality of ability is balanced by severe susceptibility to adversity. Still, the 600 damage could be too much.

Experimental D.Va 4k recall from Overwatch

In another clip, shared by ‘gram crackers’, they walk up to enemies trapped in a teammate’s Graviton Surge and summon their MEKA to get four kills – including a Nano-Boosted Reinhardt and a Winston. This is what we mean by ‘maybe too much’.

Since one Nano Reinhardt swing and a tickle from Winston’s Tesla Cannon could kill the Baby D.Va right away, the ability to counter play is still there. But most agree that 600 damage, enough to kill such sturdy tanks, is probably too much. After Reddit responses suggested that they would keep the capability permanent, one commenter suggested that 150 damage could be a good compromise.

However, it can even be too much compromise. If you halved the damage to 300, Baby D.Va can still kill most DPS and support heroes if she calls her MEKA. Given how risky the maneuver is to pull off, it can be a fun change to make permanent – and from reactions on social media, fans of the game are all for it.
