Blizzard fans hoping to hear about it Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 release dates on Blizzard’s upcoming BlizzConline 2021 will want to temper their expectations. Publisher Activision Blizzard said in a earnings call on Thursday that none of the games are expected to be released in 2021. No release window was given.
Activision Blizzard reported in a news release that the company done ‘makes significant progress’ with the development of titles for ‘other important intellectual qualities’, which the company expects to spur further growth in 2022 and beyond. ‘
CEOs said Activision Blizzard has a new title in the works, apparently in the vein of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. A remaster of Blizzard’s Diablo 2 is reportedly in development, which could leave Diablo fans up to 4 be released. Blizzard also has a mobile spin game in development, Diablo Immortal.
Both Ear Watch 2 and Diablo 4, a major follow-up to two major Blizzard franchises, was announced in 2019 at the annual BlizzCon Fan Meeting. At the moment, Blizzard has given little detail to these franchises, but noted that Overwatch 2 will introduce the revamped heroes and new faces, with a dramatic film featuring a composite Overwatch team. The game is expected to launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, Blizzard said at the time.
Diablo 4 has been in development for a while now – the project has changed direction several times. During BlizzCon 2019, director Luis Barriga said Diablo 4 will ‘take the series to its roots again’.
Ear Watch was released in May 2016. The hero shooter was unveiled at BlizzCon in 2014. Blizzard has a beta period for Ear Watch started in October 2015.
Diablo 3 was originally released on Windows PC in 2012. It later came to consoles.
